Aftercare
Our Shoes
Kolane shoes are crafted in Italy using the finest quality materials and hand-finished by expert artisans. Due to this meticulous process, there may be slight differences between each item. These features should not be considered defects but rather characteristics that give each item its unique distinction. To ensure you get maximum enjoyment from your shoes, we recommend following the care instructions below.
We recommend storing your shoes in the dust bag provided with your purchase and in a cool, dry place, avoiding prolonged exposure to sunlight, heat, and moisture. Avoid excessive abrasion and wearing with contrasting colors to prevent color transfer. Should your shoes come into contact with water, dab them with a dry cloth to absorb any excess liquid and allow them to dry naturally. We cannot be held liable for any damage resulting from accidents, misuse, dye transfer, exposure to water or chemicals, or alterations, services, or repairs conducted by anyone other than us.
Crystals
Our crystal-finished products are applied with a heat press technique on top of satin, suede, or PVC. They are delicate by nature and should be handled with the utmost care. Wear and abrasion can cause crystal-finishes to become damaged over time. We recommend that you store your shoes in the provided dust bags after wear and expose them to minimal friction. To clean, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove any loose dirt or dust. For heavier dirt, a damp, lint-free cloth can be gently used to wipe each crystal. Avoid cleaning products and liquids containing solvents and alcohol, as these can damage the crystal finishes.
Metallic & Mirror Leather
Metallic and mirror leathers have a surface finish, meaning everyday wear and excessive abrasions can cause the finish to be removed. To prevent damage, avoid excessive abrasion, as prolonged rubbing will harm the metallic finish on your shoes. Smooth leathers like Mirror Leather may crease with flexing. If the leather becomes wrinkled or scratched, there is no way to restore it. To clean, gently wipe with a soft, damp, lint-free cloth and dry immediately, away from direct heat. Cleaning products and liquids containing solvents and alcohol should be avoided, as these will remove the finish. Metallic and mirror materials should be stored away from humidity and sources of heat.
Patent
Patent leather is made from real leather that has been coated with a plastic or resin finish to give it a glossy, high-shine appearance. The coating also makes the leather more durable and resistant to scratches and scuffs. Over time, patent leather may lose its gloss, especially if exposed to alcohol or harsh chemicals. To clean, gently wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Patent leather can absorb inks and pigments, so store your patent shoes in the provided dust bags to avoid contact with darker materials.
Satin
Our satin is woven in the Lake Como region of Italy, an area world-famous for its historic silk mills. Excessive abrasion may snag the surface and is very difficult to repair, so satin shoes must be treated with care. Loose dirt can be wiped away with a soft, dry cloth. Always store your satin shoes in the provided dust bags, especially if they are in a paler hue.
Leather
As a natural material, leather evolves over time. Frequent use and exposure to light cause leather pieces to develop a distinct patina; this is an organic process that lends each design a unique character. Leather tends to mold itself quickly to the wearer’s foot and can stretch over time. This offers highly comfortable wear but is also something to keep in mind when selecting your size. Wipe your shoes after each use to prevent dirt and oil buildup. Use a soft, damp cloth to remove loose dirt and dry immediately, away from direct heat. Light scratches can be reduced by gently massaging with a clean, dry finger. If your leather shoes get wet, use a soft, dry cloth to remove excess moisture and prevent stains or bubbles. Avoid cleaning products with solvents or alcohol, as they will damage the leather.
Vegan Leather (PVC)
Our vegan leather, also known as PVC, is a synthetic material commonly used in shoe design. PVC is heat-sensitive, so it's important to keep it away from direct light, heat, and humidity to prevent cracking or melting. To remove small amounts of dirt, gently use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using non-organic solvents, especially acetone, as it can distort PVC.
